Gyu works as a doctor for Monash Health embarking on psychiatry specialist training. He has worn many hats along the way before his current role as a psychiatry registrar. He joins the First Step Board in February 2023 being the first member representing Lived and Living Experience of addiction & mental health. Starting off his journey in the AOD sector, he began working as a support worker at the Adult, Mother and Baby Withdrawal Unit then becoming the first Harm Reduction Practitioner for Windana (AOD service). After completing his Masters of Public Health, he joined the Medically Supervised Injecting Room in Richmond and the Victorian Department of Health (Mental Health & Wellbeing Division) as a policy officer for the AOD Strategy Unit.
